In 2012, the ACDC lived up to its proud reputation of creatively reinventing Shakespeare with its most daring attempt yet: an updated, 1970s themed version of this beloved play featuring a teen aged Romeo hotly pursuing a rather older and very much more sophisticated Juliet.
This innovative production was entered for the Shakespeare Drama Competition as well as two others competitions: after a lapse of one year, the Cambridge-Trinity-Alethea competition had been revived with Edexel replacing Cambridge, and the Council for Business with Britain of the Ceylon Chamber of Commerce initiated another competition in association with the British Council. Romeo & Juliet performed creditably at all three competitions but did not enter a final.
