After many years of staging tragedies, the ACDC was in the mood for a change as the next competition drew closer. Its production of Shakespeare’s The Tempest was in many ways a breakthrough. Featuring an avant-garde set and a creative reinterpretation of many much-loved characters, the play was brought to life by the young and inexperienced cast in front a rapt audience.
The play set an entirely new standard for the ACDC in creativity, characterization, pacing, and panache, and entered the final of the Cambridge-Trinity-Alethea competition, emerging 1st Runners Up. As Ananda’s first major competitive English theatre achievement, The Tempest energised the ACDC to forge ahead with even greater confidence.
